First graders have been learning about 2D and 3D geometric shapes. First, we explored some online tools to help us identify faces, edges, and vertices. Then we compared the work an illustrator does in two dimensions with the work an artist can do designing and creating in 3D. Lots of math thinking is evident as students predicted how much of each tool would be needed to construct their 3D cube. Look at the smiles of "sweet success"!
